GOGGLE TEST
Here's
how it went. We gave each set of goggles a number 1- 17. Yes
we did try 17 different sets of goggles! The goggles were to
be judged in six categories, 1. Design: This category covered
the form/ shape of the goggle. 2. Color/Paint: Should be self
explanatory 3. Fit: This covers how well the goggles fit into
the space provided for them in the helmet. 4. Finish: This category
covers the quality with which the goggles are assembled, for
example, are all layers of foam glued well. 5. Feel: This category
was entirely judged on the way the goggles felt on, probably
the most personal of all the categories. 6. Lense change: We
made every tester pull the lense out and re-insert it. Lens
change on the goggles ranged from very simple to total nightmare.
In an effort to get a wide variety of results, we used four
riders to do the testing. Riders were to rate each category
giving it a score with one being worst and five being best.
Each category had a potential high score of 20 for a total maximun
score of 120. In the end the goggle with the highest score wins.
Several
times at the track there were goggles all over the place and
someone was always asking for the pen. We learned some important
things during this test. Firstly no helmet has the same opening.
One set of goggles would fit perfectly into one testers helmet
and wouldn't fit at all into another's. We also found that spending
money on your goggles is a good thing. I used to think it was
better the spend as little as possible on goggles and have two
or three sets. This way I would never have to use wet, dirty
goggles. This philosophy was put to the test and failed! The
more refined a goggle is, the more comfortable it is. If you
are not worrying about you goggles while riding you can think
about other more important things.
So
read on and see what we found and hopefully we save you a little
effort when it comes to making a decision on the next set of
goggles you purchase. At the very least we can suggest you bring
your helmet with you when you go shopping! And if your dealer
makes a face when you start trying them on, ask him if he would
rather you shop at another dealer... Goggle selection is serious
business!
