At EDM we love testing new products, especially the ones that are truly good. We prefer to say good things whenever possible and a bad product makes this very difficult. But, it is our duty to you the reader to give you our honest, objective opinion. Lucky for us this product review is on the Twin Ring sprocket by Renthal! When we opened the box there was a flurry of fists and foul language as we fought over who was going to be the one to thrash Renthal’s new ring. Test rider #32 Tom Kraft won out as he has proven to be the hardest on drive trains and tires.

We couldn’t wait to get started. Renthal's twin ring is an innovative fusion between an ultra light 7075 T6 aluminum center piece, and an electroless (whatever this is) nickel coated steel outer ring, in development for over 5 years, Renthal is committed to building quality products and there is no shortfall with the twin ring. We have seen few sprockets stand the test of Tom but this one has come away a true winner. After an unrelenting 40 hours on our EDM CRF450, not only does the Renthal Twin Ring show little signs of wear, it has also prolonged the life of our chain as well.

For weekend warriors and off road guys, Renthal’s sprocket is a must. With it you get the durability of steel, but don’t have to pay for it with weight. Thanks to the aluminum center piece it is almost as light as an all aluminum model. Though the cost of the twin ring is considerably higher than aluminum sprockets on the market, it will last much longer, and is worth the extra coinage. The Twin Ring is available for an array of bikes with a 520 chain, ranging in sizes 47 to 53. We put our EDM stamp of approval on this one.
