If you are looking for serious upper body armor you need look no further than to BMW’s Protector Jacket. Short of wearing a set of road race leathers it offers the most heavy duty protection we have seen. When you put the Protector Jacket on you almost want to fall over just to see how well it works, it’s that solid. It is heavy without being cumbersome and it doesn't restrict movement in any way.

The Protector Jacket is made using a breathable elastic mesh with Coolmax in an effort to keep you cool during riding and it includes BMW’s award-winning, back protector 2 with newly designed NP CE protectors that provide maximum shock absorption. The chest pads can be removed for cleaning or those days when you would prefer more airflow than protection from roost. In addition to the removable chest pads, the kidney belt can also be removed and in our case replaced with one that fit tighter. The standard kidney belt was a little on the large size.

As it is with all of the upper body armor product we’ve used, there is a trade off for the protection. On hot days the armor ads to the heat issue. But a get off without one most certainly means the day of riding is over.

What do we like?
The elbow/ forearm protection combined with a serious back protector boosts confidence and increases safety. The build quality and feel of the Protector Jacket is top notch, German engineering at its finest. All the pads are in exactly the right places.
What don't we like?
The price tag.  With a retail price $349 most riders will not go the Protector Jacket route and will miss-out on an amazing upper body armor unit.
