MONSTER ENERGY KAWASAKI’S DIETRICH MAINTAINS POINTS LEAD IN WASHINGTON

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ricky Dietrich finished just off the podium after a grueling round seven of the WORCS series at Straddleline ORV Park in Olympia, Washington. Teammate Damon Huffman worked through his “toughest race” to finish with a respectable seventh, while Destry Abbott worked through bike issues to finish 15th.

Keep Going

Dietrich went into the race with a little stomach bug that had caused him to eat little the night before or on race day. He took off a little late on the start but made it up to fourth by the end of the first lap. He charged into first on the third lap and stayed there until the fatigue kicked in.

“I was really charging hard the whole race,” said Dietrich. “I knew that I had a front flat, but it wasn’t really affecting me. With about two laps to go, I wasn’t feeling myself at all. It was really weird because I’ve never really encountered anything like that before. I just tried to keep going and managed to come up with enough points to keep my lead in the championship race.”

Still On Top

Despite encountering his fatigue at the end of the race, Dietrich was able to maintain his points lead in the championship standings. With two more points paying races left on the schedule, Dietrich is focused on earning his second-career WORCS championship.

Toughest Race

Getting off to one of his greatest starts of the year, Huffman settled into the top-five and remain consistent through out the race. He continued to show his all-terrain skill as he encountered conditions he had never endured before. The track remained slick and the course was narrow, but Huffman finished the day in seventh.

“I hadn’t really ever rode in those conditions before,” said Huffman. “Every few laps there were sections that were really difficult to make it on two wheels. I just tried to ride steady.”

A Few Weeks Away

In just a few short weeks, Dietrich and Abbott will be traveling to Greece for the 2008 International Six-Day Enduro (ISDE). There is still time to donate to the team and can be done at www.destryabbott.com.

EnduroCross/ Hare and Hound

The next weekend will be a busy weekend for the Kawasaki off-road team. Huffman and Dietrich will be riding in round two of the AMA EnduroCross Series in Guthrie, Okla., while Abbott will try and wrap up his fifth AMA National Hare and Hound Championship in Wendover, Nev.
