An Aprilia SXV 5.5 recorded the best time of any motorcycle during last weekend’s Pike’s Peak International Hillclimb, and left even the 1200cc class-winning Ducati Hypermotard a full 23 seconds behind.
The 550cc V-twin supermotard with American rider Davey Durelle took the class win for motorcycles up to 750cc with an official time of 11 minutes, 42.9 seconds, the fastest recorded by any motorcycle in any class.
The historic win for Aprilia was supplemented by an impressive fifth place for Italian rider Andrea Padovani on a strictly standard Aprilia Dorsoduro supermotard — the latest addition to the Aprilia range.
Greg Tracy won the 1200cc motorcycle class and took fourth overall on the Ducati Hypermotard 1100 S — a motorcycle in stock trim with Ducati Performance accessories. Tracy logged a time of 12:06.60.
Tracy’s teammate Alexander Smith (also the son of motorcycling legend and dealer Malcolm Smith) took fourth place in the 1200cc class with a time of 13:04.29.
One hundred and nineteen motorcycles, including bikes from Japan’s Big Four, KTM and BMW, attempted to tackle Pike’s Peak this year.
