Graphics Installation with EDM Shop Girl Lesley
Clean Rags – Scissors – Hair Dryer – Contact Cleaner
START WITH A CLEAN BIKE!
Step 1- WASH YOUR HANDS
Clean hands are critical, oily fingers will reduce the ability of your graphics to adhere any place you touch them.
Step 2 REMOVE OLD GRAPHICS
You can use your hair dryer to warm the old graphics and soften them. Starting on one corner, begin peeling toward the opposite corner. Try to pull the vinyl parallel to the backing, this will make it easier to remove as one piece.
Step 3 CLEAN THE SURFACE
Spray your contact cleaner on a clean rag, wipe the surface completely. Rotate rag and repeat. You don’t want to leave any glue residue from the old graphics or oils.
Step 4 TEST FITTING THE GRAPHICS
If the graphic has backing paper that sticks out past the vinyl, trim the backing paper from around the perimeter of the background.
Before removing the backing paper, check the alignment of your new graphic on the panel it is to be applied to. Trial fitting the background will give you an idea of the points you will use to line it up. Make note of holes and curves and align accordingly.
Step 5 APPLYING THE GRAPHICS Number plates, Fenders, Radiator Shroud
Peel the backing paper away from the background. Re-check your alignment on the part to be covered. Touch one side of the graphic with your finger to place it.
With one hand maintain the alignment of the graphic, with your other hand touch a few spots along the center to place it.
Working in small sections, use your finger tips to apply pressure to the graphic being careful not to get any wrinkles or bubbles.
You want to work from the center out. If you get bubbles, carefully peel the section up and try again.
If you have sharp curves in your plastic, use the hair dryer to heat the graphics so it is more pliable. Be careful not to overheat!
Take your time don’t try to install graphics in the morning before work or school!
Be patient installing graphics well is not easy but with patience can be done well by anyone.
Have a cup of water with a few drops of soap nearby dipping your finger into the solution will help your finger slide easier when pushing out bubbles.
Wait 24 hrs before riding to make sure proper bonding is achieved.
