LS Motors-Honda is delighted to announce the signing of British top rider Shaun Simpson. The 22-year old from Gauldry, Scotland has inked a 3-year deal today with the officially supported LS Motors-Honda team. Shaun will be partnered by Belgian ace Ken De Dycker in his first MX1 World Championship season. Similar to his new team mate Simpson also has a red heritage, he rode with Honda from 2002 to 2003 and from 2005 to 2006.??Shaun, who kicked off his 2010 season with a brilliant win at the Mantova Starcross, has experienced a tough year. Marred by a run of physical problems for most of the GP season, the driven Scot still managed a credible eigth overall position. Shaun scored several top five finishes and grabbed a podium place in Catalunya. The former British MX2 champion has made a name for himself as a super fit, hard-charging competitor on the track and a friendly, approachable character outside racing.
Although Braveheart will be making his fulltime MX1 debut on the CRF450R in 2011, he’s no stranger to big bikes. Simpson rode the MX1 bike at last years MX of Nations as well as in the British championship with a good level of success on both occasions. Simpson was also due to defend the Union Jack last weekend at the Nations in Thunder Valley, but decided to pull out after sustaining a dislocated left shoulder in the GP of Brazil.
Shaun Simpson ?”Its really great to have a new challenge and something that will give me fresh motivation. I am excited at moving to the MX1 class and to joining the LS Motors-Honda team. Over the last few seasons I think they have proved that they can put together a good bike and have the right team set up to fight even at the highest level. I am confident that I can maybe surprise a few people next season as I feel very comfortable on the bigger bike and perhaps it suits my size and style better than the MX2 bike did.”
Steven Lettani (LS Motors-Honda team owner)?“We are really excited about our rider lineup for 2011! Especially because both Shaun Simpson and Ken De Dycker were on top of our list. We didn’t need to compromise. Shaun needs little introduction, he’s fast, professional and has a good attitude. The MX1 class will be new for him, but we feel that he has a lot to offer. His riding style suits the CRF450R pefectly and Shaun is keen to show the world what he is made of after the difficulties he encountered this year.”
Roger Harvey (Off-road Racing Manager, Honda Motor Europe)?“It is great news to see Shaun joining Honda again. I have watched him throughout his career and know exactly what he is capable of. I think he will make a good big bike rider and for sure LS Motors are capable of providing him a Honda that will give him what he needs.”
