McKenney-Salinas Powersports 3rd Annual Ride To Cure Diabetes to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Saturday, May 14.
The Third Annual McKenney-Salinas Powersports Ride to Cure Diabetes will be a treasure hunt of sorts, a scavenger hunt if your will, for you on your motorcycle resulting in a self-guided tour of some of the best spots in Gaston County, and even a couple in neighboring Cleveland County.
There will be 20 designated stops scattered across the ride area. Riders returning to the dealership with 15 items will be placed in the drawing for the grand prize and will be allowed to draw from door prizes, while supplies last. Riders who return with 10 items will be allowed to draw from door prizes, while supplies last.
Diabetes is debilitating. Diabetes affects 246 million people worldwide, and the World Health Organization estimates it will affect 380 million by 2025. As many as 3 million Americans have type 1 diabetes. It is the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness, and non-traumatic amputations, and a leading cause of nerve damage, stroke, and heart attacks. In 2007, diabetes accounted for $174 billion in health-care costs in the United States.
